The best adjustable bed frames under $1,000

What a four-figure budget actually buys, and the three things you give up when you spend less.

By Stephen V.Published Updated How we pick

We earn a commission if you buy through the links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we recommend, and we have not tested these products — here is what we do instead.

A thousand dollars is a generous ceiling in this category, not a tight one. Every base below currently sits well under it, and the live prices are on this page, stamped with the date. What that budget will not buy you is a manufacturer willing to publish the frame height off the floor — not one listing here states it, which tells you something about the category rather than about the price bracket.

This page carries a sixth entry that is not a bed at all. That is deliberate, and it is explained at the bottom.

Prices checked September 6, 2026. Scores are our published spec rubric, not a test result — here is exactly how they are calculated.

What the money actually changes

What varies with price in this category, and what does not
Changes with priceDoes not change with price
Frame build and steel gaugeThat the head goes up
Warranty length and who honors itThat the foot goes up, on almost all of them
Motor quality and noiseWhether the listing tells you the capacity
Whether a real company answers the phoneThat you still need a flexible mattress
Published specification depth, slightlyThat Medicare will not pay for it

The last row of that table is the one people find out too late. An adjustable bed base is consumer furniture. It is not durable medical equipment, whatever the listing photo implies. The coverage rules are here, including what is covered instead and how to pursue it.

The picks

What works

  • Four published leg heights, so the finished height is a decision rather than a surprise
  • USB-C as well as USB-A, which matters more every year as older chargers stop being replaceable
  • Published three-step assembly

What doesn’t

  • No published weight capacity or remote type
  • Twin XL is 38 inches wide — fine alone, not a shared bed
  • No published presets

Sweetcrispy Queen Electric Adjustable Bed Frame

Our spec score

Saved positions

What works

  • Eight saved positions on the remote, zero-gravity and anti-snore among them — the only queen here that publishes both
  • A wireless remote, so no control cord runs to the floor beside the bed, plus two 18 W USB-C ports built into the frame
  • A published motor noise figure under 45 dB, which only two other bases in this set — both Tami Tami split kings — match with a number rather than the word quiet

What doesn’t

  • No published leg heights, capacity or under-bed light
  • Presets are convenience, not therapy — the position matters, the button that gets you there does not
  • Queen only

As of September 6, 2026. #ad How we’re funded

What works

  • Four leg heights, so the sleep surface can be set to your legs rather than the other way round
  • An LED night light under the frame, which is the difference between a lit path to the bathroom and feeling for the wall
  • A published 750 lb capacity, and four USB ports so the phone, the hearing aid charger and the lamp do not fight over one outlet

What doesn’t

  • The listing publishes a capacity but not the frame height off the floor, so you still cannot work out the finished sleep surface before it arrives
  • No zero-gravity or anti-snore preset — you set the angle by hand every time
  • Queen only in this listing, so a split configuration is not an option here

What works

  • Height-adjustable legs, which is the feature that changes whether you can stand up from the bed unaided
  • The listing specifically calls the motor quiet, which matters if a partner sleeps through your 3am adjustments
  • A published 750 lb capacity and LED lighting under the frame

What doesn’t

  • The number of leg heights is not published, so you cannot plan the finished height before it arrives
  • No published zero-gravity or anti-snore preset
  • Massage is a feature people stop using after a fortnight; it is not a reason to choose a base

The cheaper thing you should consider first

If you are shopping because getting out of bed has become difficult, there is a real chance a base is not what you need. Height is a different problem from angle, and it costs a small fraction as much to fix.

Apipi 8 Inch Heavy Duty Bed Risers

Apipi 8 Inch Heavy Duty Bed Risers

A single-piece 8-inch lift that now publishes 3,000 lb and a material — but not the one figure that decides whether it tips.

Our spec score

Best for
A big lift on a budget
$33.99 · Check price

As of September 6, 2026. #ad How we’re funded

What works

  • A single-piece 8-inch lift in a four-pack, with 4, 6 and 10-inch heights listed in the same line
  • A published 3,000 lb rating and a published material — polypropylene with an internal reinforced structure
  • Anti-slip pads on both faces, published: foam on the top where the leg sits, rubber underneath against the floor

What doesn’t

  • No published socket depth and no published top-surface area, so how much of your bed leg actually sits inside it is unknown
  • It is the only 8-inch riser here that publishes neither a socket depth nor a contact-area figure, and 8 inches is the height where tipping matters most
  • 8 inches is a large change. Measure before you buy — most people need far less than they think

That riser now publishes a 3,000 lb rating and a material, but still not the socket depth or the contact area — the figures that decide whether an 8-inch lift tips. The risers we would buy are here, at much the same price. The point stands either way: measure first, and spend the smallest amount that solves the actual problem.

The height of the frame off the floor is the specification nobody in this category publishes.

Questions people actually ask

How much should an adjustable bed base cost?

Every base in this comparison currently sits well under the thousand-dollar ceiling, and the live prices on this page are stamped with the date they were checked. Spending several times more buys brand, warranty and build quality — it does not buy a different range of motion.

What do you give up on a cheap adjustable base?

Published specifications, mostly. Cheap listings almost never state the frame height off the floor, and only about half state a weight capacity. You also give up warranty length and, usually, any published detail about motor noise. What you do not give up is the head and foot lift itself.

Is it cheaper to raise my existing bed instead?

Dramatically. A four-pack of bed risers costs a small fraction of any base and solves a height problem outright. If the reason you are shopping is that the bed is hard to get out of rather than that you want to sleep at an angle, start there.

Are adjustable beds HSA or FSA eligible?

Generally not on their own. Some sleep products carry an explicit FSA-eligible statement — one wedge pillow in our comparison does. Our HSA and FSA guide explains what changes the answer.
