What an adjustable bed actually costs

Live prices across every category, plus the four accessory costs that never appear in anyone's total.

By Stephen V.Published How we pick

Every price on this page is pulled from a live Amazon lookup and stamped with the date it was checked. That is unusual in this category — Phase 0 research found that eight of the nine competitor pages we fetched showed static prices or none at all — and it matters because prices here move weekly.

If our daily price check fails, the numbers disappear and the buttons say Check price rather than showing you something stale. That is deliberate: the failure mode is silence, not a wrong number.

What each category costs

Rather than quoting ranges we cannot keep current, here is what each kind of purchase covers and where to see today's number.

The costs nobody puts in the total

This is the useful part of this page. People budget for the base and are surprised by the rest.

  1. A mattress that flexes. If yours is a rigid innerspring, it will not work on a base, and this is not optional. How to test it in two minutes.
  2. Deep-pocket sheets. Ordinary fitted sheets come off a bending mattress. Modest cost, near-certain need.
  3. A gap filler, on a split king only. The trench between two mattresses is not mentioned in any base listing.
  4. A second mattress, on a split king. Two twin XL rather than one king, and this is the big one.
  5. Getting the old bed out. Not a product cost, but a real one if a bed has to leave a first-floor room.

What works

  • Four published leg heights, so the finished height is a decision rather than a surprise
  • USB-C as well as USB-A, which matters more every year as older chargers stop being replaceable
  • Published three-step assembly

What doesn’t

  • No published weight capacity or remote type
  • Twin XL is 38 inches wide — fine alone, not a shared bed
  • No published presets

Marsail NS0 Split King Adjustable Bed Base

Marsail NS0 Split King Adjustable Bed Base

Two independent halves, so one person can sit up to read at midnight without tipping the other one out of a book.

Our spec score
7.2/10
Best for
Two people, one bed

What works

  • Each half moves independently, which is the entire argument for a split king
  • Published zero-gravity and anti-snore presets — an anti-snore preset is a small head raise, not a medical device
  • Published three-minute setup and four USB ports

What doesn’t

  • A split king needs two twin XL mattresses and a gap filler, which is money and effort the listing price does not include
  • No published leg heights or capacity
  • Two halves means two motors and twice the things that can fail out of warranty

What works

  • Three heights out of one box, so you can try 3 inches, decide it is not enough, and go to 5 without buying twice
  • A published 1,300 lb rating for the set
  • Cheap enough that testing a height costs less than being wrong about one

What doesn’t

  • Stacked risers are less stable than a single-piece riser of the same height — stack at your own judgment
  • No published socket depth, and socket depth is what decides whether your bed leg actually sits in it
  • Raising a bed raises the fall distance. Height helps you stand; it does not help you land

What works

  • If the problem is reflux, this is the thing to try before a base — and CMS itself points people at elevation before equipment
  • FSA eligibility is published, which turns a $36 pillow into a pre-tax $36 pillow
  • A washable cover is included

What doesn’t

  • A wedge raises your chest, not the whole bed. It does nothing at all for getting out of bed
  • 7.5 inches is a modest rise; some people need more angle than this gives
  • No published fill material or density

About the premium end

Saatva, Tempur-Pedic's ERGO line and Sleep Number all sell adjustable bases at considerably higher prices than anything here. They are real products with real advantages — better warranties, dealer support, sometimes genuinely better engineering.

Amazon does not carry them, we have not joined their programs, and we are not going to write a comparison whose buy button cannot exist. So they are named here as context, we earn nothing from mentioning them, and if you want one you should go to the manufacturer directly. How we are funded.

Questions people actually ask

How much does an adjustable bed cost?

Every price on this page comes from a live Amazon lookup, stamped with the date, rather than being written into the article once and left to go stale. That is exactly why there is no price range written into this sentence.

What is the total cost of switching to an adjustable bed?

The base plus, commonly, a flexible mattress, deep-pocket sheets, and — on a split king — a gap filler. The accessories can add more than half the base's price, which is the part nobody budgets for.

Why do adjustable bed prices vary so much?

Build quality, warranty, brand, and how much the manufacturer publishes. What does not vary is the basic function: the cheapest base and the most expensive one both raise the head and the feet.

Are cheap adjustable beds any good?

For the function, yes. What you give up is published specifications — capacity, frame height — plus warranty length and, usually, the ability to buy spare parts in five years' time.
